What Your Perfume Says About You

Smelling good is just as important as looking good – this is what many women believe, and it is the reason why the perfume industry is such a booming business.

Most women today have at least one bottle of fragrance on their dressers at all time, some even use different scents for different occasions. But in addition to making you smell nice, what exactly does your choice of perfume say about you?

Perfumes for Every Personality

A lot can actually be revealed about your personality just based on the kind of perfume you wear and how you wear them. There are fragrances out there that are best suited for a woman with an active, sporty lifestyle, and there are also those that are perfect for the mysterious and romantic individuals.

No matter which type of perfume you like to wear, you should know that there is a proper way of using them. The first rule is to never put on too much. Just dab or spray a small amount on key parts of the body, such as on the insides of your wrists and behind your ears.

If you walk around a lot during the day, applying perfume behind the knees will leave a lingering scent behind you as you move around. If you are going on a romantic date, applying some fragrance in your cleavage is definitely a great way to seduce your date.

Perfume Strengths – Lasting Power

Some perfumes last only a few hours upon application, while other last all day, sometimes even late into the evening. There are many factors that affect the lasting power of the perfume, including the alcohol content, your rate of perspiration, the weather, and so on.

You can make most perfumes last longer, however, by keeping the bottle protected from sunlight and heat. You should also keep the bottle tightly capped at all times to prevent the scent from seeping out.

Fragrance Impressions

Sometimes, you can identify a person who has walked into a room without looking at them, just by smelling their perfume. This is because fragrances are easily imprinted on people’s memories. Similarly, people will also be able to identify you by scent if you have a signature perfume that you always use.

Some scents evoke certain feelings and memories as well. There are those perfumes that can make you feel relaxed right away, and there are those that fill you with energy.

As you can see, there is a lot that your perfume can say about you, and a lot that you can learn from others as well based on the perfumes that they wear.

What Are The Perfume Strengths for Women’s Perfume?

So often, when we are shopping for perfume, we have no idea of knowing what the perfume strength is. For instance, does an Eau de Toilette mean that you can use more of it, or does it mean that you should apply it sparingly in the way that you would Eau de parfum? How do you know how long lasting the fragrance you’re considering is going to be and if you apply perfume once daily, does that mean that you will need to reapply throughout the day?

Unfortunately, many women risk smelling overpoweringly sweet because they don’t know how to apply their fragrance according to the perfume strengths, which can cause you to have layers of perfume on and wind up smelling overpowering at best and sickeningly sweet at worst. Remember, too much of a good fragrance can make the nose burn and eyes water. No longer do you leave a halo of fragrance; you leave a whiff of toxic air that many people will work to avoid.

Eau – What Does That Mean?

When you see Eau, as in Eau de perfume or Eau de toilette, it means that the perfume oils have a low proportion of perfume oils to alcohol. So for instance, with Eau de toilette, you will likely have about 4-10% of perfume oils which are then diluted in alcohol. Typically, Eau de toilette is one of the more common perfume concentrations because it’s generally easy to wear, though not as long lasting as other concentrations.

Eau De Parfum

This is another fairly common perfume strength, and you will usually find that this one contains anywhere from 8-15% perfume oil and is generally longer lasting than it’s lighter cousin, Eau de toilette. You might find that you need to apply much less of this concentration and you almost never find yourself reapplying because the fragrance lasts all day.

Parfum

Parfum is the highest perfume strength there is and it contains 15-25% perfume oils. Usually, you will find this concentration in the bottles with stoppers, because a little bit goes a very, very long way and the act of spraying this fragrance on could cause you to wind up with too much on. However, you might choose to decant this concentration into a very light mist atomizer to get the right amount of fragrance.

When you are shopping for fragrance, you should know the perfume strength so that you can decide which formulation is right for you and your budget. Many people prefer parfum in the winter, but choose something much lighter, such as Eau de toilette in the summer, so it’s ultimately up to you and how you want to smell.
